The Green Party’s wealth tax won’t work

Lefties can crunch numbers, I am shocked.

..In fact, it would be a miracle if the tax raised more than a fraction of even our recalculated amount. No serious economist would suggest that a tax could be so efficient, or so void of dynamic effects, that it would collect all that such a simple application of arithmetic would imply. And case studies from Europe make grim reading for Green party politicians eager to spend other people’s wealth. …

Sit back and enjoy watching as they cling to fictions while reality crashes down around their ears.

  1. Andrew Neil (yes I know that he is a Tory and a Scottish one at that) pointed this out when he interviewed Natalie Bennett on The Daily Politics, which I have embedded in this blog post:

Since yesterday and probably as a result of that interview they have dropped their plan for a ‘Citizen’s Income’, which would in any case just have been tax credits by a another name, allowing unscrupulous employers to hold down labour costs.
